The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board is mandated to protect of the public from the adverse effects of gaming and betting including the promotion of transparency and ability.
The Responsible Gaming Program is a set of activities that integrates treatment and counseling, public awareness, education, training and research on gambling and problem gambling.
Sensitization and Awareness
The Board actively engages with key stakeholders, including Ministries, educational institutions, community leaders, and media like radio stations and television, to conduct sensitization programs and awareness workshops. These sessions provide invaluable opportunities to sensitize against underage gambling raise awareness about the dangers of excessive gambling and provide participants with practical strategies for responsible gambling behavior.
Research
The Board acknowledges the importance of research in meeting its strategic objective and creating safer and more sustainable gaming. With the rise of illegal gambling premises/online platforms and easy access to gaming activities, it’s crucial to dig into the factors that promote gambling and find effective ways to reduce the risks associated with excessive gambling. In 2023 the Board conducted research on the socioeconomic and health effects of gambling and drivers of problem gambling in Uganda.

The board has strong partnerships in place to those affected by gambling. Organizations like the Ministry of Health (MOH), Butabika Referral Hospital for mental health, the Ministry of Education (MOE), Ministry of Gender Labor and Social Development (MGLSD) Bank Institutions and Game care play a crucial role in providing the necessary services to individuals in need.
